No one is truly available to a project 100%. The most that can be expected is up to 80% availability from people tied to their workstations.  However for knowledge workers highest availability would be 50% - 60%.

If looking for ways to increase project team members effectiveness, then check out how knowledge of time, meeting, and project management are related.  To do so, click on the URL below to see the August 2005 article "Planning for Success" from the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD)** newsletter.

http://www.dallasastd.org/news/ASTD/Articles/planforsuccess.htm

Below is the diagram mentioned in the above ASTD article.  It also appeared in RightFit newsletter article in July 2005.

** The Dallas Chapter of ASTD focuses on best practices and local trends that professionals will find informative, useful, and applicable to the challenges they face.

According to the Wizard of Whenã "Before trying to develop a project plan, assemble a Project Team of people that have something to contribute to the overall project. ... If the team can help with planning, then they are more likely to be committed to accomplishing the plan and the project goal or objective.  In addition, it is less likely that omission of important details from the plan will occur if the team is involved in developing the plan."

To help with project planning and team member  task performance there is a wide variety of software applications that may be helpful.    There are project tools for developing plans and tracking resources.  Additionally spreadsheet and word processing tools as available for creating graphs and necessary documents.  Other tools  allow team members to plan and prioritize their time, as well as being useful for group planning and communication.  Some allow for setting up meetings, sending invitations, assigning tasks, or directly booking meetings on the calendars of others via a network.

Looking for a unique idea for motivating and recognizing individual accomplishments or project team members?  Then go to the URL below to see the July 2005 article in the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) newsletter titled "Give your Employees a Standing Ovation".  This idea can be used in corporate and non-profit organizational settings.
